Wheelchair Program

As if being robbed of the ability to use their legs is not bad enough, many young Balinese are too poor to buy a wheelchair to give them some mobility. Without mobility, these patients are virtually without opportunity as well. Even going to school is denied them. Ngh is 14 years old and has never been to school. This donated wheelchair has given him a chance of mobility and new opportunity.

The Foundation receives donated wheelchairs from various hospitals in Australia. The Rotary Club of Scarborough, Western Australia also supplies wheelchairs specially designed to withstand the 'off-road' conditions of the Balinese terrain. These chairs are built in Australia, and then flown in kit form to Bali where the Foundation assembles them and distributes them to Balinese who have lost the use of their legs.

The Foundation works in conjunction with the Bali Department of Social Welfare and BK3S Province of Bali to identify people requiring this assistance.

This young girl suffered a high fever when she was small, which caused brain damage. The wheelchair, donated from the Hollywood Hospital in Perth, will be a huge bonus to her and her parents, especially as she gets older.
