Southeast Kalimantan Mobile Eye Clinic

Following the enormous success of the Bali Mobile Eye Clinic, the Yayasan Kemanusiaan Indonesia extended its outreach program into South Kalimantan with financial backing from PT Adaro Indonesia as part of the company's community development outreach to improve the welfare of the people in its area of operation. PT Adaro Indonesia, the largest coalmining company in Asia, produces a special envirocoal, which is a low-ash and low-pollutant product.

Recently graduated ophthalmologists from the Indonesian Universities undergo specialised cataract surgery in Bali before they head out for a term of working in this remote province. The program works with the full cooperation of the provincial Department of Health. The team nurses, who are all from South Kalimanta,n were also trained in Bali, and staff at the puskesmas (village clinics) were trained on location in the detection of eye problems and cataracts.
