16 February - 3 March 2005:
TB Project Review


Four members of the Australian TB Consortium - Mr Richard Lumb (IMVS Adelaide), Dr Rick Stapledon (Royal Adelaide Hospital), Dr Justin Waring (Perth Chest Clinic) and Dr Ivan Bastian (IMVS Adelaide) - conducted a week-long review of TB microscopy and treatment facilities all over Bali, in conjunction with members of the TB Section of the Bali Department of Health.

The review is in preparation for the TB microscopy and DOTS treatment training program, which is being funded by the Australian Red Cross and will be conducted over a six-year period

 




28 January - 17 February 2005:
Volunteer Ophthalmologist, Dr Peter Graham

The Foundation's senior consultant ophthalmologist, Dr Peter Graham, was in Bali to continue in the training program in cataract surgery for young Indonesian ophthalmologists for the South Kalimantan Mobile Clinic project.

During his time in Bali, Dr Peter also assisted with the training for the North Bali Mobile Clinic and general clinic training at the Rumah Sakit Indera, Denpasar, where the Foundation's cataract program is based.




2-16 January 2005:
Volunteer Ophthalmologist, Dr Ian Spencer


Ophthalmologist, Dr Ian Spencer, came to Bali to participate in the training program in cataract surgery for young Indonesian ophthalmologists for the South Kalimantan Mobile Clinic project. The current ophthalmogist, Dr Nofi, is due to complete his contract in Kalimantan in March 2005.

Dr Spencer traveled to Kintamani in Bali to do a village screening, and is pictured here examining the three previously cataract blind girls from one family who were operated on in 2004.




5-7 January 2005:
Cleft Lip and Palate Operations


Six children with cleft lips and/palates were operated at the Rumah Sakit Puri Raharja by local surgeons, Dr Jaya Kesuma and Dr Anom. The cost of the operations was covered by donations from Poppies Asia, the American Women's Association (Jakarta) and other private donations.
